Sunday Blues & Boogie at Three Keys

Nominated New Orleans’ “Best Blues Artist” in the 2018 Best of the Beat Awards, slide guitarist, singer, producer and WWOZ-fm “Soul Serenade” host Marc Stone gathers all of the roots and branches to forge a smoldering, funky style all his own. Whether putting his originals front and center with the Marc Stone Band, exploring the deepest Delta roots with Son House protege John Mooney or celebrating the Creole Funk and Soul legacy with New Orleans’ vocal legend Marilyn Barbarin in the New Soul Finders!, Stone’s distinctive voice and touch set him apart from the pack.

As rhythms of revolution and psychedelic explosions gripped America in the late 1960s, a new force burst forth from New Orleans, the eternal wellspring of American music. It was fierce, new and defiant. It was THE FUNK.
Five decades a million samples later, New Orleans Funk is ingrained into the American consciousness. Of all the great records made in the Crescent City at that time, none were harder hitting or more innovative the wax cut by Eddie Bo and the Soul Finders, feating legendary drummer James Black, bassist Paul Boudreaux and vocal prodigy Marilyn Barbarin. Their sound and fire graced the most sought after gems of the New Orleans Funk 45 pantheon, masterpieces like Hook and Sling, Can I be Your Squeeze and Reborn, on tiny labels like Seven B, Bo Sound, Scram and Fire Ball. DJs and record producers have mined these incredible tracks for years, but they have stayed nearly absent from stage, with most bands leaning on the formidable Meters/Nevilles/Toussaint canon.

Now Marilyn Barbarin and Paul Boudreaux have joined forces with later Eddie Bo band alumni Marc Stone and Tom Worrell, and renowned drum master Eric Bolivar, to bring their great music back to the stage. Barbarin and Boudreaux drip soul with their pitch perfect, New Orleans church raised vocals, and Boudreaux plays the same punchy, bubbling bass that powered the great Soul Finders recordings. They are going to dig deep into darkest corners of the NO Funk catalog, and bring the fire that made their efforts with the original Soul Finders all time classics. Don’t miss this band!

Creole funk and soul legend Marilyn Barbarin burned her name into the annals of New Orleans music in 1969 with her Eddie Bo-produced funk firestorm “Reborn.” She was only 15 when she began to testify with her church-raised, God-given pipes. There’s no use in trying to stand still once Marilyn starts to sing.

Wild Bill Daniel is the guitar player for international touring act Naughty Professor. When he isn’t on the road he spends his time producing records at his studio Wild Child Studios in Mid City, New Orleans. Sam Kuslan features on Keys and Vocals while Sam Shahin (drums) and George Gekas of the Revivalists (bass) fill out the rhythm section.

Jordan Anderson is a New Orleans based singer/songwriter, piano and organ player who’s one of the founding members of J & The Causeways.

Naughty Professor is an iconoclastic New Orleans-based jazz-funk sextet whose adventurous recordings and horn-charged, high-energy live performances have earned them an enthusiastic fan base, critical acclaim and widespread attention from their musical peers.

Their diligent roadwork has established Naughty Professor as a beloved live act. Weaving together complex, inventive compositions and loose, organic improvisation, the band honors their hometown’s jazz, R&B and brass-band traditions while looking to the future.
